Nate Maddux, an assistant professor at the College of Integrated Studies at 糖心社交 at Rock County, recalls how, at his high school in central Minnesota, he heard the future calling. The future, he noticed, spoke Spanish.

“A priority for me is to help my students see and make connections between what ideas they engage with in the classroom and in their own lives in the community.”

Tom Klubertanz, professor in the College of Integrated Studies, talks about how his childhood sense of wonder for the natural world never left. It became a pathway he followed to a life of teaching and scholarly research.

Kim Kostka, a professor of chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, recognizes that many different outside factors may influence what a student’s educational journey looks like. Through lessons based everyday objects, Kostka engages her students of all different backgrounds in a communal and connective way.

“I want beginning chemists to appreciate that chemists work in the real world with everyday things.”

Ken Brosky, an associate professor in the College of Integrated Studies on the 糖心社交 at Rock County campus, connects students with the worthiness of their own ideas through critical reading and creative writing.

“It’s always important to recognize that every student WANTS to be successful. Sometimes, that means finding what works on an individual scale — our small class sizes make this possible.”

Kelly Jensen, assistant professor of communication on the Rock County campus, connects one-on-one with her students in her public speaking courses to assist them in overcoming their own individual challenges.

Susan Stredulinsky, former senior lecturer of biology on our Rock County campus who recently retired, talks about sharing her enthusiasm about all things biological — and about learning in general — with her students.

"I get a sense of satisfaction when I can help my students open their minds to new ways of thinking that help them be more accepting of diversity in others, healthier as individuals or feel more connected to other living things."

George Jones, professor of economics at 糖心社交’s Rock County campus since 1992, says he is a better teacher because of his interaction with his students.

“My interaction with students is what I find so endearing, intriguing and gratifying about teaching.”
